An Important Piece of Motorsports History

Serenissima refers to La Serenissima, "the most serene", a traditional name for Venice.
A fascinating universe made through a history of passion for the world of racing, of ambitions, entrepreneurship and exclusivity. Distinctive gem of the Italian automotive world, Scuderia Serenissima's timeless brand identity is characterised by craftsmanship, uniqueness and innovation. Its aesthetic is contemporary, daring and with a glamorous vintage flair.

Cars as a means of transportation and a symbol of economic growth thus evidence of the socio-cultural changes that marked Italy in the 20th century. In this scenario Scuderia Serenissima was born; a modest, privately founded niche brand that had big competitors but managed with courage and ambition to bring together the best drivers, mechanics and entrepreneurs of the time to create an innovative project.
It represents a part of Italian automotive sports history whose testimonies are extremely rare. Scuderia Serenissima was created in Formigine, in the province of Modena, thanks to its founder Count Giovanni Volpi di Misurata.

Today, the name Volpi is also connected to the arts and the cinema. "My father founded the Venice Film Festival in 1932", explained Giovanni Volpi. "This was before Cannes, which took its inspiration from the Venice Festival in 1946." Also known as the mostra internazionale di arte cinematografica di Venezia, this festival takes place every year in September, and is part of La Biennale, which Giuseppe Volpi has been president of. One of the prizes is the Volpi Cup, awarded to actors and actresses. Volpi says, "All the films that won at Venice in the 1930s, 1946-1949, 1950s and mid 1960s have become movie classics."
Giovanni Volpi himself took an interest in the seventh art, and has made a film about Juan-Manuel Fangio, which was never produced commercially. It features some remarkable images of the five-time world champion and the motor racing world in the 1950s. "Paul Newman said it was the best automotive film he'd ever seen".

The Scuderia Serenissima cars participated to the Concorso d’Eleganza at Villa d’Este and to other important events. And that this year the Spyder car by Scuderia Serenissima was the winner of the TROFEO ASI - For the best preserved post-war car.

A Legacy That Lives On

Today, the Serenissimas have become museum pieces, appearing in prestigious exhibitions such as the Retromobile Show. Their value continues to rise, with some reaching several million euros at auction. But beyond their financial value, these cars represent an essential chapter in automotive history: that of the small manufacturers who dared to challenge the giants, leaving behind legends and machines of timeless beauty.
